Morgan Wallen continues his successful tour, performing sold-out shows with celebrity guests. However, a legal issue looms over the country star. Wallen’s court appearance for charges related to throwing a chair from a Nashville rooftop bar has been rescheduled from Aug. 15 to Dec. 12.
According to Taste of Country, Wallen faces three felony charges following an incident at Eric Church’s bar. Police report that a chair fell from the roof, nearly hitting officers below. Witnesses claim Wallen threw the chair and laughed afterward.
PEOPLE reports that Wallen’s case is complex due to his fame and the proximity of the chair to the officers. Each felony charge could result in one to two years in prison, potentially totaling six years. However, criminal defense attorney David Raybin suggests consecutive sentences are unlikely.
Raybin emphasizes the seriousness of the situation, noting the danger to the officers. He speculates on potential outcomes, including probation or split confinement with some jail time.
“The question is going to be, because he’s a celebrity, should he be treated differently, either too lightly or too harshly?” Raybin added.
He concludes, “This is a really serious thing. It’s the risk that’s punishable, not actually what happened.”
